Director Sheppard's Message On National Preparedness
Dear fellow New Yorker,
Throughout the month of September, the Department
of Homeland Security and the American Red Cross are celebrating National
Preparedness Month aimed to encourage Americans to prepare for
emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools. Here in our
State, New Yorkers will have a variety of opportunities to learn more
about preparing for emergencies allowing families and businesses to
develop an emergency plan making our State and economy more able to
respond and recover.
In coordination with the Governor’s Office,
the State Office of Homeland Security, the State Office of Emergency
Management and the Department of Health are conducting the “Aware
Prepare, Knowledge is Power” campaign distributing awareness materials
throughout our State and transportation networks. These Aware Prepare
outreach packets will serve as guides to remind all New Yorkers to remain
vigilant and continue to prepare themselves and their families for an
unforeseen emergency.
I urge all New Yorkers to remain vigilant, not
only during National Preparedness Month, but every month of the year.
I encourage you to develop emergency plans for any potential situation
that may impact your community so that you and your loved ones will be
better prepared.
Sincerely,
F. David Sheppard
